Most professional and novice writers prefer mechanical keyboards. They use a variety switch types that are based on personal preference.
The mechanical keyboard is preferred by writers and authors because it provides a tactile experience. It also has excellent response times.
Writers or fast typers:
Before we proceed, we will define “writer” either as a person who produces a large amount of content for personal or professional reasons or as an author.
When it comes to typing speeds, writers tend to fall into one of two categories:
These are two-fingered typewriters who can’t touch type or refuse to learn.
Writers who are touch typists can produce 60 words per minute, for hours on end.
While fast typing can be beneficial to writers, it is not required for the job or hobby.
If you are a freelance writer or professional author, it is a great advantage to be able write several thousand words a day. However, this is not the case for hobbyists.
Typing faster can increase the amount of time spent on the typewriter, allowing the writer to concentrate more on their creativity.
Some writers are so bad at typing that they pay someone else to do it for them. They also have their “writings” transcribed by voice recordings. Unexpectedly, many of your favorite authors dictate their books to be transcribed.
Why?
Dictation allows you to write 4x faster because
the average person can only type 40 words per minute, while they talk up to 150.
What is the best mechanical keyboard for writing on?
Mechanical keyboards are a good choice for writers because they are accurate and comfortable to use. You can also customize the clickiness of the switches and the speed. They tend to last longer than membrane keyboards or rubber dome keyboards.
Is it more difficult to type quickly on a mechanical key board?
It is not more difficult to type on a mechanical key board. Mechanical keyboards actually improve accuracy and reduce typos when writing content of any type.
Switching to mechanical keyboards has been the best thing I’ve done for my writing over the years.
It’s been 2 years since I purchased my SteelSeries and it still works as well as it did when I first bought it. I am considering buying some mechanical keyboards for testing purposes.
What switches are best for writing?
Cherry Brown or Cherry Blue tactile switches, depending on the level of response desired, are considered as the best switches.
Some writers like more resistance and others prefer less. The beauty of mechanical keyboards is that you can test different switches until you find the perfect one for you.
What is the difference between typing and writing?
Some writers prefer to write everything by hand, then transcribe it using dictation or typing.
This is because writing by hand adds more creativity to your work. Writing things down by hand will keep your muse content.
Some writers claim that writing by hand allows them to avoid distractions from technology. They can focus on their work and ignore the notifications and pings of their computer.
It suits their creative style. Again, this is a personal preference. Scribbling notes also helps them deal with writer’s blocks as they avoid the auto-correct line of a hastily misspelled word that would distract them from what it is they are trying to write down.
There’s no evidence to support the idea that typing is superior to writing.
Zero.
This is coming from someone who is constantly surrounded by notebooks and notepads, in which he regularly doodles. I’d never dream of writing an entire book or novel on paper.
It is a huge waste of time and resources.
It is easier to type than handwrite, and the notes you have written do not need to be typed. You also run less risk of cramping your hands. Typing makes it easier to keep track of word counts, if that is required, and to open a new page for research.
Your digital documents can either be saved on a removable disk or stored in the Cloud. Paper notes can be destroyed permanently by anything, from a strong sun to spilling a glass water on them.
If you plan to use the keyboard for a long time, it should be comfortable. Consider an ergonomic keyboard if it will reduce your risk of RSI.
